Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken with Nepal’s interim leader, Sushila Karki, to congratulate her on her appointment and reaffirm India’s support for the country during its political transition. In Thursday’s call, Prime Minister Modi extended condolences over the deaths in recent protests in Nepal and conveyed best wishes on behalf of the Indian government and people. He said India was ready to work closely with Nepal to strengthen their “special ties” and to support Kathmandu’s efforts to restore peace and stability, while ensuring progress for its citizens. Prime Minister Karki thanked Prime Minister Modi for India’s backing and said she looked forward to deepening cooperation between the two countries. Modi also sent greetings ahead of Nepal’s upcoming National Day. Both leaders agreed to remain in regular contact.
