New Delhi, August 28
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit beginning August 31 in China. The visit is being described as strategically important, with discussions expected to focus on regional security, economic cooperation and shifting global power alignments. Officials in New Delhi see the engagement as particularly significant against the backdrop of Washington’s recent decision to impose 50 percent tariffs on Indian exports.
