‘Proud moment’: Rajnath Singh hails arrival of Apache helicopters

India’s defence posture received a sharp boost on Tuesday as the first batch of Apache helicopters was delivered to the Indian Army, in what Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described as a “significant step” towards military modernisation. Calling it a “proud moment”, Rajnath Singh said the deployment of the American-built attack helicopters would enhance the Indian Army’s operational capabilities, particularly in difficult and mountainous terrains. The helicopters are expected to play a critical role in bolstering the Army Aviation Corps’ strength along high-altitude fronts, including India’s northern and eastern borders.

“These advanced helicopters will enhance the Army Aviation wing’s operational effectiveness, especially in challenging terrains,” Singh posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “A proud moment reflecting our commitment to modernising the Armed Forces.”

The Indian Army echoed the sentiment, hailing the delivery as a “milestone moment” in its aviation history. In a statement, the Army said the induction of the state-of-the-art Apache platforms would “significantly bolster the operational capabilities” of its aviation units.

India is expected to receive more helicopters in the coming months, with the full squadron deployment anticipated later this year.
