Chandigarh, March 26
Presenting the fourth budget, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema unveiled several key initiatives for the state’s overall development, with a significant focus on water supply and sanitation. Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardip Singh Mundian expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Finance Minister Cheema for prioritizing clean drinking water and improved sanitation facilities in rural areas. The 2025-26 budget earmarks ₹1,614 crore for these initiatives.
Mundian highlighted that the funds will accelerate the implementation of surface water-based projects, rehabilitate aging infrastructure, and enhance rural sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). The budget also includes provisions for upgrading and extending pipeline water supply to 176 villages, ensuring access to safe drinking water.
