Punjab, February 17
In a move to streamline document verification for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Punjabis, the state government operationalised the E-Sanad portal in September, allowing NRIs to apply for countersignatures on official documents from the comfort of their homes. Since its launch, 6,481 applications have been received for countersigning from January 1, 2025, to date.
Minister of Administrative Reforms and NRI Affairs, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, noted that 200 NRI applications are sent daily to the Ministry of External Affairs for further processing. The portal has made it easier for NRIs to track the status of their applications, significantly reducing time wastage.
The E-Sanad portal also offers services for obtaining a variety of documents, including birth certificates, police clearance certificates, medical certificates, educational qualifications, driving licenses, marriage/divorce certificates, and adoption deeds, among others.
