Punjab’s Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Thursday said that the state government will carry out a special girdawari (crop survey) to assess and compensate farmers for losses caused by flooding. Mundian visited flood-hit villages in Kapurthala district , where he said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government had already begun the compensation process. Deputy Commissioners have been told to complete the survey once water levels recede and submit reports swiftly.
Relief operations are under way in Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Fazilka, overseen by a ministerial committee. Mr Mundian said ₹2 crore had been released for Kapurthala to provide rations, drinking water, medicines and veterinary care.
The minister also promised stronger flood-prevention measures, including campaigns to reinforce river bunds. He travelled by boat to meet affected families, distributed supplies, and called for additional State Disaster Response Force teams. Officials have been asked to ensure fogging against mosquitoes and health checks to prevent waterborne diseases. Veterinary teams will monitor livestock in affected villages.
“The government stands with you in these difficult times and will provide all possible help,” Mundian told residents. District officials, police and local AAP leaders accompanied him during his visit.
