Punjab Police have arrested four associates of the Devinder Bambiha gang during a operation in Barnala district, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday. The four — Satnam Singh alias Satti, Gurpreet alias Guri, Sarm Singh alias Rinku and Deepak Singh — were allegedly conspiring to commit a major robbery when they were intercepted. Officials said the men opened fire on the police party but were overpowered and arrested along with their vehicle.
Police recovered four weapons, including a Zigana pistol, three pistols of .30 and .32 bore calibre, and live cartridges. According to the DGP, Satnam Singh is a “habitual offender” with more than 22 cases against him, ranging from murder and attempted murder to Arms Act and NDPS Act violations. Sarm Singh and Deepak Singh are also suspected of involvement in the narcotics trade.
Yadav said interrogation is continuing and further disclosures are expected. He added that Punjab Police remain committed to dismantling gangster networks and tackling organised crime to safeguard peace in the state.
