Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has received a threat warning of an attack during the flag-hoisting ceremony during Republic Day. The threat was sent via email to the official account of the Shimla district magistrate, officials said. Following the email, police registered a case at Sadar police station in Shimla on the basis of a complaint forwarded by the district administration. An investigation has been launched to trace the sender.
Security arrangements have been tightened at the Ridge ground in Shimla, where Republic Day celebrations are scheduled to take place on 26 January. Police said the message originated from an unidentified email address and was later shared with the superintendent of police’s office for verification.
Preliminary inquiries have found the contents of the email to be false and misleading.The police said the message appeared to have been sent deliberately through electronic means to create fear and panic among the public. The authorities said security agencies remain on alert while further investigation continues.
