A devastating stampede at the Baba Sidheshwar Nath temple in Jehanabad, Bihar, led to the tragic deaths of seven devotees, including three women, during a consecration event held as part of the holy month of Shravan. According to the news outlet of NDTV, the incident, which also left at least 35 others injured, reportedly occurred after a scuffle among kanwariyas (devotees). Eyewitnesses claim that the situation escalated when NCC volunteers managing the crowd allegedly resorted to a lathi-charge, sparking panic and causing the deadly stampede.
Local authorities, however, have denied any wrongdoing, asserting that adequate security measures were in place. Vikash Kumar, the sub-divisional officer of Jehanabad, dismissed allegations of force being used to control the crowd, describing the event as an “unfortunate incident” that resulted from a dispute among the devotees. Through the context of ndtv, district Magistrate Alankrita Pandey echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that a thorough investigation would follow the post-mortem reports to determine the exact cause of the stampede.
