Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Saturday said that an alleged terror operative has been arrested in Amritsar in a major security operation. The Punjab Police chief said the State Special Operation Cell apprehended Manpreet Singh, also known as Tiddi, and recovered a .30 bore pistol along with live ammunition from his possession.
Yadav confirmed in a post on X that two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), each weighing around 2.5kg and packed with high-grade RDX and timers, were also recovered from a location in Kotla Tarkhana village based on the accused’s disclosure. Preliminary investigations suggest Manpreet Singh was acting on the instructions of handlers in Armenia, the UK, and Germany, who in turn were receiving directions from a Pakistan-based mastermind linked to a banned terrorist organisation.
An FIR has been registered at the SSOC police station in Amritsar. Authorities said further investigations are under way to trace the network’s forward and backward links. The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling terror networks and ensuring the state’s security.
