New Delhi, June 5
US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order banning citizens from 12 countries from entering the United States, citing national security and immigration risks. The countries affected by the full ban are Afghanistan, Myanmar (Burma), Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The order applies to both immigrants and non-immigrants.
In his statement, Trump said the decision was based on the risks posed by individuals who become lawful permanent residents, noting that these individuals are “more difficult to remove” if security concerns arise. He added that some countries lack proper identity-management systems and information-sharing protocols. The order also includes partial restrictions on travellers from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. “These restrictions distinguish between, but apply to both, the entry of immigrants and nonimmigrants,” the former president said.
