Gukesh, 18, triumphed over China’s Ding Liren in a thrilling match in Singapore on December 12, setting a historic milestone. Dhankhar hailed the victory as a significant achievement for Indian sports, highlighting Gukesh’s rise as a global chess icon. “This remarkable victory goes beyond the chessboard and symbolizes India’s increasing prominence on the world stage,” he stated. He also emphasized the importance of India’s research and development, which has contributed to the emergence of young talent like Gukesh.
