New Delhi, March 17
India’s wholesale inflation rate rose slightly in February, reaching 2.38%, up from 2.31% in January, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce on Monday. The increase was primarily driven by higher prices in food products, non-food articles, textiles, and other manufacturing sectors. However, the Food Index, which includes primary food articles and manufactured food products, declined from 191.4 in January to 189.0 in February. The annual inflation rate for the Food Index also eased to 5.94% in February from 7.47% in January.
Revised figures for December 2024 showed the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) at 155.7, with an inflation rate of 2.57%. The ministry reported that the WPI for February 2025 was compiled at a weighted response rate of 88.3%, while December’s final figures were based on a 96.4% response rate.
