The Himachal Pradesh State Food Commission has ordered strict action after worms were found in rice served to children at multiple Anganwadi centres in Shimla district. During a routine inspection in the Chopal–Kupvi subdivision’s Dhar Chandna Circle, officials discovered infested rice at 10 Anganwadi centres. Commission chairperson S. P. Katyal immediately directed that the contaminated food supply be halted and those responsible be held accountable.
The inspection team found several centres — including those in Gaon Khar, Dhar-I, Dhar-II, Sharad, Bethadi, Dak, Bawat, Oran, Mushadi and Majhgaon — either shut or serving substandard food. Officials summoned Anganwadi workers on the spot to open the centres and inspected the food stock.
The Commission has instructed the CDPO, Chopal, to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure swift disciplinary action.
