The ICMR National Institute of Virology found Zika virus in mosquito and larvae samples from Pashan, Erandwane, and Mundhwa in Pune. The outbreak began on June 20, with 49 cases reported, including three in rural areas, according to Mint Reports.
Dr. Radhakrishnan Pawar, joint director of health services, said, “Preventive measures include controlling mosquito breeding within a five-kilometer radius.”
Two new cases were reported on July 31: a 27-year-old pregnant woman from Manikbaug, Sinhagad Road, and a 78-year-old man from Baner. Both tested positive for the virus.
The PMC has sent 448 samples for testing, including 395 from pregnant women. Health officials are on alert and have discussed strategies for containment.
