Chandigarh/Patiala, March 28
Veteran Punjab Congress leader and former state finance minister Lal Singh has died after a prolonged illness, party leaders said on Saturday. He died at Max Hospital in Mohali, where he had been undergoing treatment, triggering an outpouring of grief among Congress workers and senior leaders in the state. Lal Singh was regarded as one of the experienced faces of Punjab politics and had served as finance minister in the government led by former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. He had also served as chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board. Lal Singh was a five-time MLA from Dakala and had a long political career spanning several decades.
