Chandigarh, March 3
Punjab’s School Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to enhancing education standards through a comprehensive teacher training programme aligned with international benchmarks. Speaking at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh, on Monday Bains underscored the importance of providing teachers with the knowledge, training, and tools needed to create a stress-free and engaging learning environment.
The Punjab government is implementing a ‘Train the Trainer’ initiative, which empowers selected teachers to become trainers themselves. This approach aims to create a self-sustaining model that benefits the entire primary education system by cascading knowledge through the teaching community.
Bains, alongside Finland’s Ambassador to India, Kimmo Lahdevirta, inaugurated a week-long training session for a second batch of 72 primary school teachers. These educators will travel to Finland on 15 March for two weeks of training at the University of Turku as part of a knowledge exchange programme.
The Minister discussed the success of the first batch’s training and explored deeper collaboration with Finnish educational institutions to elevate Punjab’s education standards. He expressed a keen interest in Finland’s world-renowned practices in elementary education, teacher training, and digital learning.
Lahdevirta praised Punjab’s progressive initiatives and pledged Finland’s ongoing support. Secretary School Education Kamal Kishor Yadav and Director SCERT Punjab, Amaninder Kaur Brar, also highlighted the collaboration’s potential impact on the state’s education system.
Bains honoured Finnish dignitaries, including Liisa Toivonen, Ari Koski, Kristiina Heikkila, Soili Norra, and Suvi Puolakka, for their contributions to the programme.
