The Punjab government has launched online NRI Milnee programs to address grievances of non-resident Punjabis, ensuring swift resolution of their concerns, officials said. These virtual meetings, held monthly, allow NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal to personally hear complaints via video conferencing. The grievances are then forwarded to the relevant departments and Punjab Police’s NRI wing for immediate action. According to the NRI Milnee 2024 report, 309 complaints were registered, of which 256 have been resolved. The remaining cases are being jointly monitored by Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) at the district level. Dhaliwal also highlighted the Connect with Your Roots initiative, aimed at encouraging Punjabi-origin youth aged 16-22 to visit Punjab and strengthen their cultural ties.
Additionally, NRIs are being urged to invest in their ancestral villages. Under a cost-sharing model, NRIs can fund 50% of infrastructure projects—including schools, hospitals, drinking water facilities, and sports stadiums—while the Punjab government covers the rest.
