Inter-state illegal weapon supply module busted, 2 held: DGP

Punjab Police on Thursday busted an inter-state illegal weapons supply module with the arrest of two accused from Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

The counter-intelligence wing in Jalandhar recovered 10 country-made pistols and 20 magazines from the accused, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.

According to the police, the accused were involved in procuring weapons and carrying out firing incidents for extortion, including at a travel agent’s residence in Garhshankar, allegedly on the directions of foreign-based handlers.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were acting at the behest of criminals operating from Germany and the United States, supplying weapons to gangs in Punjab. Officials said the case points to strong links with international networks involved in terror and criminal activities.

A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire network, the DGP added.
