Chandigarh, January 10
Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, chaired a review meeting on Friday to assess the progress of welfare schemes under her department. The meeting, held in Chandigarh, included discussions with Additional Chief Secretary Alok Shekhar and Director Sandeep Hans about the department’s operations and the public reach of its initiatives.
Key welfare programs such as the Ashirwad Scheme, Post-Matric Scholarship, Adarsh Gram Yojana, and the Prime Minister’s Abhyudaya Yojana were reviewed. Dr. Kaur instructed officials to convert district-level Dr. Ambedkar Bhawans into community spaces by establishing gyms and libraries for public use.
The Minister emphasized the ongoing implementation of schemes like low-interest loans for self-employment, the N.B.C. Scheme, and N.M.D. Welfare Schemes, aimed at enhancing the socio-economic conditions of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and minorities. She directed officials to organize awareness camps to ensure the effective outreach of these programs and guarantee that all citizens are informed and able to benefit from them.
The meeting was attended by Raj Bahadur Singh, Director-cum-Joint Secretary, and Deputy Director Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu, along with other senior department officials.
