A 48-year-old bank guard shot himself accidentally while cleaning his double-barrelled gun in Talwara town here on Monday, police said.
Gurmail Singh, a native of Maddipur village under Dasuya Police Station limits, is a gunman at a Punjab National Bank branch in Talwara.
According to police, the incident happened around 1 pm when Gurmail Singh was cleaning his gun. Bank officials rushed him to the BBMB Hospital, from where he was referred to a hospital in Jalandhar after being administered first aid.
Dasuya Deputy Superintendent of Police Balwinder Singh, who visited the spot, said that preliminary investigation suggested the incident was accidental.
“All pellets from the double-barrel gun hit the guard on the left side of his body. Further action will be taken after recording his statement and examining CCTV footage,” the officer said.
