Punjab Police bust cross-border arms network, three held: DGP

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday said that the Amritsar Police have busted  a cross-border arms smuggling network, arresting three people and recovering six sophisticated pistols. In his post on X previously known as twitter, the Punjab DGP said that the preliminary investigations suggest the accused were in contact with smugglers based in Pakistan through social media platforms. The network allegedly facilitated the movement of illegal weapons into Punjab, where they were supplied to criminal groups.

DGP Yadav said the consignments were received locally and then distributed further, raising concerns about organised criminal links operating across borders.

The police have registered a case under the Arms Act at a station in Amritsar. Officers are now working to trace both the supply chain and recipients, as part of efforts to dismantle the wider network. He added that further investigations are ongoing to identify additional suspects and uncover the full extent of the operation.
