Punjab to build high-security jail for gangsters in Jagraon: Bhullar

Chandigarh/Patiala, November 26

 Punjab Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar announced plans to lodge gangsters and notorious criminals in a new high-security jail near Jagraon, Ludhiana, designed to dismantle criminal networks operating from within prisons. Speaking at the passing-out parade of 132 warders and 4 matrons at the Punjab Jail Training School in Patiala, Bhullar emphasized that upcoming jails will be built at least one kilometer from residential areas. This design will minimize disruptions from advanced security systems, including state-of-the-art jammers, and curb the smuggling of contraband.

The Minister outlined modernization efforts, such as artificial intelligence-based CCTV systems and enhanced mobile jammers in prisons. He also announced the imminent recruitment of 13 DSPs, 175 warders, 4 matrons, and medical staff to address staffing shortages.

To support prisoner rehabilitation, Bhullar highlighted initiatives like establishing petrol pumps in eight prisons across Punjab. Addressing the graduates, he urged them to serve with integrity and uphold the law.

The event, featuring martial arts demonstrations and cultural performances, was attended by senior officials, including ADGP Jails Arun Pal Singh and IG Jails Roop Kumar Arora. Awards were presented to outstanding trainees for excellence in training and leadership.
