Chandigarh, April 15
A bus carrying devotees from Anandpur Sahib overturned near Himmatpura on the Morinda Chunni road in Bassi Pathana area of Fatehgarh Sahib, leaving six people dead and 21 injured, police said on Wednesday. Police said all the passengers were residents of Main Majri village and around 40 devotees were traveling in the bus after paying obeisance on the occasion of Baisakhi. Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police Shubham Aggarwal said the accident appears to have been caused by a mechanical fault in the vehicle.
Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar said six people, including a woman, lost their lives, while 21 sustained injuries. The injured were taken to hospitals in Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathana, and Rupnagar, with some referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research for advanced treatment.
Locals rushed to the spot and assisted in rescue operations. An injured woman said the bus had overturned suddenly just before reaching the Main Majri village. Leaders expressed grief over the incident. Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said he was deeply saddened and extended condolences to the bereaved families, while Bikram Singh Majithia also expressed sorrow and prayed for the injured. Authorities are monitoring the condition of the injured, while further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
